The Theatre B.F.A. Stage Management track serves those students interested in a career in stage management. It is offered for students who, upon graduation, plan to pursue a specialized career in the entertainment industry. Because of the university’s location in one the world’s top entertainment destinations, UCF is a top choice for students interested in all aspects and avenues of stage management. B.F.A. standards are high, both for admission and for continuation in the program.
The Stage Management B.F.A. program offers a sequence of courses focusing on an understanding of all disciplines of theatre. Students will take courses in design, stagecraft & technology, performance, directing, theatre history, and literature. Multiple courses in theatrical management focus on management theory, rehearsal and performance management, paperwork, organizational theory, contracts and the business of theatre. Students expand upon the classroom experience through interaction with leading industry professionals and site visits to local entertainment venues. Students must complete three stage management assignments before graduation. Qualified students may be selected to work on outside professional projects.
Students are evaluated annually and must meet professional standards to successfully complete the B.F.A. The senior year is highlighted by the required professional internship, where work with practicing professionals continues to refine the students' skills and prepare them for stage management positions in the entertainment industry or for further study in graduate school.
